61章
国が大きな力を得た時、海のようになったとき、すべての流れがそこへ向かう。
それが成長するほど、謙虚さの必要性が高まる。
謙虚さはタオを信頼することを意味し、したがって、防御的である必要はない。
偉大な国は偉大な人のようなものである。
その人がミスをすると、それを受け入れる。
それを理解して、それを認める。
それを認めた後、それを修正する。
その人は自分の欠点を指摘する人々を彼の最も慈悲深い教師と思っている。
その人は自分の敵を自分が投げかけた影だと思っている。
国家がタオを中心とするならば、それが自国民を養い、他の事柄に干渉しないならば、それは世界のすべての国に光となるだろう。
When a country obtains great power, When a it becomes like the sea
: all streams run downward into it.
The more powerful it grows, the greater the need for humility.
Humility means trusting the Tao, thus never needing to be defensive.
A great nation is like a great man:
When he makes a mistake, he realizes it.
Having realized it, he admits it.
Having admitted it, he corrects it.
He considers those who point out his faults as his most benevolent teachers.
He thinks of his enemy as the shadow that he himself casts.
If a nation is centered in the Tao, if it nourishes its own people and doesn't meddle in the affairs of others, it will be a light to all nations in the world.
